FAQ
Our Ready-to-Use Foam Cleaner is pre-mixed, so no extra water is required. Simply apply the foam directly onto a brush, gently scrub your shoes, and wipe clean with a microfiber towel. This product works well on most materials, including leather, suede, canvas, mesh, and cotton.
If you can get away with it, the best way to clean suede is with a dry clean. The Suede Kit includes a Suede Eraser and Suede brush, for daily and weekly maintenance.
- To clean the dirt off of suede shoes, give the upper of the shoes a dry brush by gently brushing the suede back-and-forth using your Suede Handle Brush. This will remove any loose dirt and top layer dust.
- To remove marks from suede shoes, use the Suede Eraser. Use very light pressure and be gentle so as to not damage the delicate material. The rubber of the Suede Eraser lifts the nap of the suede and helps to loosen up the dirt.
- Finally, use the Suede Handle Brush to brush the dirt away.
In most cases, following the above instructions will result in stellar results! However, if the marks are still noticeable after dry cleaning, you may need to use the Quick Clean Kit, which comes with our Ready-to-Use Foam Cleaner.*
*Due to suede’s textured nature, open pores, and various grades, it can be somewhat unpredictable. We recommend that you test in an inconspicuous area first. We do not recommend cleaning dyed suede, as dyed suede is likely to bleed from any contact with water. Individual results may vary, use at your own risk.
To clean mesh sneakers or running shoes like Flyknit, Hoka, Salomon, or On, start by brushing off any loose dirt or debris with a hogs hair Delicates Cleaning Brush. Apply a small amount of our Ready-to-Use Foam Cleaner to the brush, and gently scrub in the direction of the knit pattern. Avoid harsh scrubbing to avoid damaging the delicate material. Use a microfiber towel to remove any remaining foam solution, and let the shoes air dry.
To restore your white sneakers, start by applying our Ready-to-Use Foam Cleaner to the Delicates Cleaning Brush. Gently scrub the entire shoe, focusing on stained or dirty areas. For tougher stains, use a firmer brush and reapply the cleaner as needed. Use our Quick Wipes to clean the soles. Wipe off any excess solution with a clean microfiber towel and allow the sneakers to air dry.
To keep your sneakers white, regularly clean them and apply a protectant repellent spray, like our Repel Spray, to protect against future stains. Also, store them in a cool, dry place away from dirt, moisture, and excessive sunlight.
Our Ready-to-Use Foam Cleaner is perfect for cleaning canvas shoes, like Vans, Converse, Superga, or Chuck Taylors. First, remove any loose dirt or dust from the surface by brushing them with a dry brush. Apply a small amount of Ready-to-Use Foam Cleaner to the same brush and gently scrub the canvas in circular motions. It’s important to scrub the entire surface area to avoid creating any isolated water stains. Use a microfiber towel to dab and twist the canvas to soak up as much liquid as possible and to help lift any remaining stain. Let the shoes air dry completely.
The longer you go without cleaning your sneakers, the harder it is to get the dirt out. You can help keep canvas shoes clean by tending to stains as soon as possible, before they are allowed to set. For tougher stains like grass or wine stains, we recommend using the Deep Cleaning Solution.
Magic Erasers are made of melamine, an abrasive, sponge-like material. While touted on the internet as an inexpensive, quick way to clean shoes, we don’t recommend using it on your cherished boots and sneakers for a couple reasons. First, melamine is highly abrasive. It’s essentially like taking a very fine sandpaper to the shoe. This may be OK for the most durable of materials, like plastic and rubber, but it can pull the dye or paint out of leather and fabric. Also, they do nothing to clean or condition the shoes, which they can dry out and deteriorate. Jason Markk cleaners include nourishing oils to condition and protect your shoes, so they last longer and look better.
If you’ve tried to clean your sneakers, but the soles still come out yellow, it’s likely due to oxidation—a natural process that occurs when rubber or other materials are exposed to the elements over time. Midsoles made from synthetic rubber and/or plastic actually bleed plasticizer and coalescence, which over time react with the natural alkaline in soils and turn the sole yellow. UV rays can accelerate this process. Once oxidation has occurred, it may not be possible to reverse, but regular cleaning can help remove dirt and stains, while also giving your soles a fresh look.
